Tanglefoot Training Centre Co-owned and operated by Heather Bourchier
Welcome to the Tanglefoot Training Centre! Established in October 2005, the Tanglefoot is a new, community based fitness and wellness facility in Kimberley! Co-owned and operated by Heather Bourchier, one of the Kootenay's most respected fitness educators and trainers, we offer education and training courses, personal instruction, cardio and weight training studios, plus group classes in fitness and conditioning, core strengthening, indoor cycling, Pilates, yoga, meditation and even belly dancing! Our facility has a warm, community atmosphere with an extensive schedule of programs, classes and services to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse membership. Our team of qualified instructors and welcoming staff strive to provide first class service and a comprehensive wellness experience at a reasonable price.
Programs Tanglefoot offers both “regular” and “specialty” classes and programs. Regular classes run from 6 - 12 weeks, with new sessions starting in January, April, July and September. These classes are included in the full membership or you can register for each program separately. Click here for current schedule. Specialty programs are not included in the membership, but are offered to members at a discounted rate.
Regular Classes
Body Sculpt This class provides 45 minutes of creative resistance exercises to challenge the body and improve muscle tone and definition.
Cardio Circuit This complete and balanced workout combines various cardio intervals with strength exercises, followed by a full body stretch. Ideal for all fitness levels.
Core Strength And Stability This 45 minute class focuses on core stabilization and functional muscle strengthening using Balls, Bosu’s, Bands, Dumbbells and the Body.
Fitness Ride This 45 minute class emphasizes proper cycling technique and includes a combination of steady riding and self-paced higher intensity intervals. Personal bikes and raining stands welcome.
High/Low Cardio This class provides a choreographed high/low aerobics workout followed by strengthening and stretching exercises. Ideal for all fitness levels.
Step Circuit This higher intensity workout provides effective step training with resistance and power intervals, ending with a relaxing full body stretch.
Pilates Essentials and Pilates Plus Based on the Stott technique - a contemporary approach to the original teachings of Joseph H. Pilates – these classes emphasize controlled, whole body movements, postural stabilization and working with the breath. Set your own pace as you master the fundamental exercises (Pilates Essentials) and then more challenging exercises (Pilates Plus) to strengthen the core and re-align the body.
Beginner Yoga This class is designed as an introduction to yoga for those with no previous yoga experience. Drop-ins are welcome throughout the 6 weeks of the program.
Yoga with Kirsten (Beginner/Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced) These classes are focused on exploring the body in search of an authentic experience in movement, breath, mind and meditation. Practice from the truth of the body, not from the stories of the mind. Mats are provided. Please bring a blanket.
Vinyasa Yoga Based on the Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series. This active style of yoga works through the body linking movement and breath, thereby increasing strength & stability, determination & concentration.
Specialty Programs These programs are not included in the membership, but are available to members at a discounted rate.
Belly Dancing with “Mama Caliente” Tone your abs, hips, back and arms while experiencing the spirituality and sensuality of belly dancing. Hip scarves or long skirts recommended.
Tai Chi for Beginners Beginner Tai Chi teached the basic principles of Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan within a "Five Section Form". Tai Chi training encourages body strengthening, coordination, balance, relaxation and meditation , as well as martial art principles.
Personal Training Includes any combination of Personal Consultation, Postural Assessment, Goal Setting, Program Planning, Exercise Instruction and Training (training methods and approach based on client).
Weekend Warrior Ideal for sport training and general athletic conditioning. Sessions include indoor and outdoor cardio conditioning, core strengthening, sport-specific training and stretching to prevent injuries. (Seasonal Program)
Trail Blazers Walk /Run Program This is a weekly group walk or run on our beautiful local mountain trails. Set your own pace and enjoy a different route each week. (Seasonal Program)
Trail Blazers Running Groups This program is well suited for those learning to increase their running distance or prepare for recreational or competitive running events. Includes training program and technical instruction plus scheduled weekly runs. (Seasonal Program)
Private Group Rides or Training Sessions We are available to provide specialty classes, workshops, indoor rides or other training sessions for groups, sports teams, businesses or clubs.
Triples V-Ball and B-Ball for Teens "For youth, age 13 - 18 yrs. Supervised by a qualified coach, each session includes warm-up skills and drills followed by game play. The 6 week session will finish with a wind-up tournament and prizes! Register in teams of 3, or as individuals. (Seasonal Program)
Athletic Conditioning for Youth This program will give young athletes, age 11 - 18 yrs, a way to enhance and maintain their physical conditioning through the summer. Appropriate for athletes from any sport, sessions will focus on cardiovascular conditioning, speed and power development, core strengthening and stretching. (Seasonal Program
Special Interest Workshops Workshops will be offered each season covering a variety of topics including yoga, Pilates, meditation, fitness, health, wellness and nutrition.
