I think Kimberley needs something, and if I knew what that something should be I would be all over it. Unfortunately its a bit of a ghost town. I moved here in Nov 2009 and had great ideas of getting stuck into something, no not the liquor store but that's not a bad idea! I have lots of wacky and wonderful ideas but ideas are one thing, getting them of the ground is another! I have looked all around the Kimberley area and have noticed more businesses closing than opening. So I'm I prepared to take that risk? Im not sure

I think you have to look at the main areas of what attracts people to Kimberley :The ski hill :The Golf Courses and try and capture a business that skiers and golfers or recreational users in general are looking for. Kimberley needs to look at how to get those people into the town, but people don't come to Kimberley to buy things, they have already done that in Alberta or south of the boarder, lets face it why would they? What they want are good places to eat and drink, other activities? It needs a big change in direction, is the 70's Austrian/Bavarian feel realy working? Half of the platzl is for sale so does that answer that question?

I cannot be totally negative, I have met lots of wonderful people who live and believe in Kimberley and according to them Kimberley goes through this slump every 6-8 years. And that's why I'm going to give it all I can before I am forced back to the big city lights and cheaper taxes! Wink

I think we need any business that can pry $ out of golfers/skiers/Albertans hands. It may be something as simple as a shuttle service to get them out RCR's grip and into the Platzl. I have thought of coupling this with a coupon book that package promoters buy and it would have all of the platzl merchants in it. Win for all. Another thing is a good shoe store, that sells current brands - Bogz, birks, ... when you ask around everyone has bought shoes in Fernie, Invermere, Nelson, Revelstoke, not Cranbrook, you get the picture.

I'm sure with your ideas someone will say it's been done but was it done well is the real question. Look at the success (so far) of the burrito grill.

How about Property Management.

Cam and Linda at Kimberley Property Management are the most ignorant people I have ever met.

I met Cam on Monday, he forgot who I was by Tuesday when I saw him again, the very next day. Reintroduced myself and gave him my references which seemed to make him confused.

Wednesday he called my house looking for a reference I gave him so I told him it was me and not my landlord, who he was looking for. He didn't remember who I was again and then proceeded to ask me about myself. If I was a good tenant, clean and so on. I gave myself the best reference possible, naturally.

He took my information and I felt I had a pretty good shot at this rental.

Thursday I go down to talk to him again and he has totally forgotten who I am.

Anyone trusting their property to these two should burn their own house down. Save yourself the trouble and money.

I am at a total loss for words. I'll let you know if my reference of myself was what they were looking for, if he remembers that I'm trying to rent the house.

Kimberley already has property management well covered but at the OTHER real estate office--the one next to Royal Bank. You need to contact Doug or Kerry at East Kootenay Realty 427-0070.

I was talking to a guy about this very topic the other day. He has it all figured out. He said Kimberley only needs one new business: a large mine. Rolling Eyes
